Elton, Coot
Making the most of the fantastic weather and light so off round Elton Reservoir. Shots were taken on different side of the lake with different light conditions
"Walking on Water"
"Walking on Water"......Pied Wagtail on ice
It's a brilliantly sunny November morning and I decide to visit Elton Reservoir, it must be well over 15 years since my last visit. The city is humming in the distance, but I'm content not having to cope with the stress and rigours of work any longer
I'm sitting under a grass bank trying to keep inconspicuous, looking, watching, listening identifying the various bird species, the early morning sun's melting the the ice on the frozen edge of the reservoir when, a Pied Wagtail drops in just in front of me, it appears to be walking on water, I fire off a burst of 20 images in 2 seconds, then...
I just watch and enjoy.

Waxwings Have Arrived, Blackburn
Had the opportunity to photograph around 40 Waxwings located in Blackburn quite near to home so not an opportunity to miss. The report was Waxwings were feeds on Rowen berries in the location of the Go Outdoor clothing outlet, the Griffin Pub and a residential housing estate behind the Griffin Pub.
On arrival, rather than lugging all the gear around I had a quick check of the Go Outdoor carpark, no sign of Waxwings! Option two was to walk down the road to the Griffin Pub and check out that location, part way dow the road I picked up some Waxwings so it was back to the car to collect the gear. Setting up opposite the Griffin Pub focusing on a berry laden Rowan tree I and a number of other photographers waited, and waited, but apparently the birds were feeding on berries in a residential estate behind the Griffin, so it was pack up the gear and relocate
Now located in a small residential housing development with even more Rowen trees! resident are watching with interest what all these people are up to with long lens cameras. The Waxwings are in trees close by watching, waiting, then flying in to feeding for two to three minuets at a time.
So with memory cards full, a successful day. Thanks for looking

Birtle, Goosander
Bit of a record shot of female Goosanders from this mornings walk round. So wary and always in the middle or opposite side of the lodge.
Cold, overcast, now for some refreshments in the Pavilion

Pennington Flash, Cormorant
This bird flew in, landed and jumped up on the post. The feather detail on the birds back is almost scale like

Pennington Flash, Long Tailed Duck
Have to admit I've been on a mid week "twitch" today to photograph a Long Tailed Duck at Pennington Flash, Greater Manchester, the first twitch in a long time and the last time I visited Pennington Flash being well over ten years ago so I was interested to see how the site had developed
Arriving in the carpark noting the best conditions for photography I headed to the Horrocks Hide for quick a rece and see if I could get an update where the LTD was located, apparent the duck was located in the area of the East Bay opposite the main carpark so packing up the gear I relocated to the south side of east bay. Meeting fellow photographer he told me he has just observed the duck, moving further along to the East Bay Hide I located the duck diving about 10 metres from shore, quickly positioning myself when the duck was diving it surface right in front of me giving me the opportunity I hadn't envisaged, fantastic views at ten meters distance.
Memory cards almost full and late for a prior appointment I left the other photographer to enjoy the close encounter

Forest of Dean
Drive through the Forest of Dean on the way to Monmouth and came across this unfortunate wild boar which appears to have been in a collision with a motor vehicle.
When you drive around the forest the damage to grassed areas is quite incredible...
